AC Milan are ready to raise their offer to Rafael Leao in a bid to get the winger to renew his contract, according to a report.
La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes that Paolo Maldini’s words before the Champions League match against Chelsea confirmed that Milan’s will is to get Leao to extend his current June 2024 deadline before the break for the World Cup, therefore in the next month.

There could be developments as early as next week because on Tuesday or Wednesday the Rossoneri management will meet the French lawyer who has represented Leao since the beginning of the year.
There is confidence filtering from Casa Milan because of the player’s firm will to remain at the club, but that must turn into a signature and the Rossoneri have a new offer ready which includes helping player pay off the compensation he owes Sporting CP (€9-10m).
Not only that, but they are willing to offer him a five-year deal worth €5m net per season, and while this is some way off the €7m that Leao wants, it is a proposal that would finally put an end to the affair with Sporting CP that has been going on for too long.
Paying off some of the fine as a ‘gift’ to keep his wages lower would make a lot of sense from a point of view of keeping him as an asset, making it possible to move him on if needed and not technically breaking the pay ceiling.
I highly suspect there’s little chance of this happening – I’m pretty sure he’ll leave for free – but that does seem to be the only possible way to do it.

See this IS the exact problem – why are we offering 5M when we all know his request is 7M???? WE are the ones risking loosing him. We have NO leverage here. Leao turned into a superstar. All the big clubs want him. He wants to be one of the top earners IN ITALY (not England) – so 7M is completely reasonable (considering players like Rabiot make that amount). So why do we come in at 5M??? Stupid. Put 7M on the table and pay his fine. Period. Sign him to a 7M deal and lock him for another 5 years. It’s smart business. If PSG lose Mbappe in January or in summer – who do you think they will come after to replace him with?? Leao has justified his salary request. Pay this fkn guy and be done with it. Then when he is locked up – IF he “needs” to be sold down the road or requests to leave – we are in a position of strength if we need to sell. This BS about offering 5M when he told you he wants 7M is just setting us up for trouble. He will not and should not take less than 7M (and quite frankly could easily ask for more $$) – so don’t muck around and put 7M on the table and sign him ASAP

Just give him 7M as he wants. 5M is insult. Why would he stay for 5 M when he can make much more elsewhere? I already see this will end up as disaster. We will lose Leao for free and then pay 30M or more (just for a transfer) + 3 or 4 M in yearly wages to some unknown but promising player which will turn out to be a disaster.
A player like Leao is a rare gem. And we already have it in club. To lose him because of 2M difference is nothing but stupidity!!! Just sell some other player or two that make 2 M combined and that’s it. For God’s sake Daniel Maldini was making a million a year!
