Since leaving AC Milan, Milos Kerkez has been on a constant upward trajectory. Given how sought-after he is, the club might just feel a bit of regret.
As Calciomercato.com write, Bournemouth are continuing to do great things under head coach Andoni Iraola. On Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge, only a 95th-minute free kick by Reece James prevented them from beating Chelsea, with 2-2 the final score.
The team largely put together by director Tiago Pinto remains just outside the European zone, one point behind the champions Manchester City, who are admittedly struggling this season under Pep Guardiola.
The Cherries have the fifth-best defence in the league and among the usual starters are Milos Kerkez and Dean Huijsen, sold by Milan and Juventus for €2.7m and €15.2m respectively. Now, they are worth a lot more.
The Rossoneri had and still have one of the best left backs in the world in their team in Theo Hernandez, but the management surely cannot avoid thinking about how they had Kerkez in their grasp. He is the best U21 left-back for assists, crosses, key passes and tackles.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool are being credited with interest in the Hungarian and Bournemouth want £50 (around €60m) to sell, which is 22x more than the amount Milan received when they sold him to AZ Alkmaar in 2022.
While the Diavolo continue to search for a reliable deputy to Theo they may ponder whether Kerkez could have had more senior minutes earlier to keep him happy. The defender admitted that his father pushed him to leave though, while he also stated that he thought he deserved a shot.
He would not have had this development as an understudy to Theo, anyway, so this is an uninteresting hypothetical.
I knew this guy would be quality. He was the best player in the youth squad and Pioli never used him in the first team. I mean to even sell the guy for nothing is an insult. All of this happened under Maldini as well. So remember that.
The blame goes both ways.
He had a bad attitude.. but the club also didn’t handle him well.
He did have a lot of playing minutes during a preseason, and he should very good signs, scoring a brace in his first or second game.
But then him and his agent asked for a promotion to the first team and more playing minutes.
There was no way he was going to stay.
Although I think having him as back up for Theo instead of wasting time and resources on Ballo-Toure could’ve provided a path to resolve the conflict.
Well, it is something that shows how good Maldini was. He got a left-back that no one knows. The player asked for more playing time (actually, he asked to be the starter, not to be benched). Both Pioli and Maldini couldn’t guarantee this, especially since we already have Theo. The player needed 3 years of playing time to develop, which couldn’t be guaranteed by Milan (Btw he refused to be loaned out)
This. It’s nice to fantasize about Kerkez, but how does he become a “star” when Theo is in front of him? The only way this would have worked is if we’d sold Theo instead, in the summer we sold Kerkez, and made Kerkez the starter, but then everyone here would have murdered management for selling “one of the best leftbacks in the world” and “taking profit”. Then a couple of years later (so right about now), Kerkez, obviously being extremely ambitious, would have demanded a transfer to something like Madrid, Bayern, or the PL, leaving us with nothing.
Bla bla bla.. useless would have should have article.
Some people dont work in some groups but does great in other groups.
Its not science just basic emotions and feelings. Nothing any money or other things that dont matter can change.
He left because he wasn’t even considered as a back up for Theo. Then we went and bought some obscure player from France that is still drawing a salary and not even featuring for us. Maybe considering Kerkez for the 1st team backup could have swayed him.
That is the point.
This is on Pioli for refusing to give special youth players opportunities.
Do people here use their brains? He would’ve never benched Theo
He wouldn’t have benched Theo, but he could have allowed us to sell Theo for 100M at his peak value and not lose too much in the way of quality.
As it stands, we’ll likely have neither of them next year.
It’s fair to say he might not have developed the same, but he was clearly a very talented player and we let him go for next to nothing rather than loan him to a good development team.
If he never played regularly he would’nt have done the same
Also the decision to let him go was made by everyone’s favourite Maldini who apparently never did anything wrong so there’s also that.
Do not waste your time, Milan is not Bourmouth. If we want to develope our youngsters we do what Real does with us. Loan them and take them back better, or sell them with buy back favorable clause, the only other option is future sales high percentage
Pioli chose to play Ballo Toure over this guy, which was sooooo stupid. That’s what’z wrong with Italian football. Clubs would rather go out and buy a proven shit player than take a chance with unproven talents…
This is a common story for all big clubs it happens. Ollie what was Milan supposed to do? Hold him hostage alienating him and every other young talent?
This guy just wanted first team action, but he wasn’t deemed ready just like Simic, Nsiala, and others who had left and those who will still leave… I still don’t understand why they purchased Royal when we had Jimenez and calabria even kalulu, buying Pavlovic instead of promoting Simic… we would rather purchase trash players than give our own product a chance.
He still young. Let’s make judgement after a few consistent years….
Bring Maldini Back!!!
Big clubs let young players like Kerkez to leave with buy-back clause. But we don’t have the “big club” mindset for long time…
