Milan legend Costacurta slams Donnarumma: “He has lost some credibility”

Gigio Donnarumma has decided to leave Milan at the end of the month, when his contract with the club will expire. Unable to reach an agreement on the renewal, he will have to start looking for his new destination.

Or to be more correct, Mino Raiola will have to find a new club for the goalkeeper and that won’t be easy, as few clubs are willing to make such a huge investment. Therefore, Donnarumma could be forced to accept less than what Milan offered.

Paolo Maldini called Raiola’s bluff and it remains to be seen how the agent will sort the situation. Speaking live on Sky Italia (via MilanNews), Milan legend Alessandro Costacurta had a few words for the young goalkeeper.

“Unfortunately, I think they both lost. What is surprising is the way the player has lost the opportunity to compete with his family in Europe. I’ve been there and I know how satisfying it is and he won’t be able to feel it. He was a great protagonist of the champions ride and he won’t be able to do play in it with his family’s shirt on. I say family because that’s how I define Milan.

“As a man, then, he has lost some credibility because choosing to leave like this is never nice. I understand the desire for a new challenge but he could have stayed at Milan for a few more years. The club, meanwhile, have lost the opportunity to monetize from his departure. The thing that left me dazed is how the boy doesn’t think that he put the club who raised him in difficulty,” he stated.

Harsh words but perhaps the right ones, as Donnarumma chose to give up on the club that raised him, leaving them with nothing in terms of a transfer fee.
