Pedulla: Milan’s summer Botman plan outlined as another Lille star is ‘driving Milan crazy’

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have not given up on signing Sven Botman from Lille and they will try again in the summer transfer window, according to a report.

Alfredo Pedulla writes for La Gazzetta dello Sport that Milan are of the the opinion that is useless to make an investment on a player when they are not convinced full by his profile, and that is why a defender may not arrive this month because Botman is their number one target.

Milan and Lille have great relations as seen by the Rafael Leao and Mike Maignan deals which proved to be great business, and in the summer talks could reopen between the clubs especially when taking into account that Renato Sanches is ‘driving Milan crazy’ given they as him a perfect heir to Franck Kessie.

Lille were able to pick and choose their sales more this month because they have reached the knockout stages of the Champions League, so after Jonathan Ikoné left for Fiorentina they preferred to keep their key men with a contract that is not expiring. Reinildo Mandava went to Atletico Madrid, but he was on an expiring deal.

Botman will remain therefore but Milan got an important sign for from the attempt that Newcastle made to land him. The Premier League side went up to €40m but they did not convince the 22-year-old Dutchman who wants to keep playing in Europe’s top competition.

Milan will try again in the summer and the negotiations should begin from a base of €25-28m plus the addition of many bonuses, linked to performances and success, which would approach the potentially golden figure of €35m.

  1. The thing is milan aren’t signing anyone. Vlahovic is going to juventus for 75m. And here we are thinking of spending 80m for sanches and botman which we cannot afford and we know it. Title race is already over if you can’t spend to make a team. We need miracle to win scudetto this season.

    1. Miracle would be clearing the injury list (Kjaer excl.) and keeping it clear(ish) for the rest of the season but I don’t see that happening either.

Also a miracle would be referees actually whistling fairly and NOT disallowing legit goals Milan scores. Yeah… Not going to happen either.

  2. gotta agree, today is a bad day for us, our rivals are getting stronger while we sign potential prospects for 2-3 seasons away, forgetting vlahovic for a second then seeing the likes of alvarez going to Man City for the release clause value, we are sleeping when we should be pulling the trigger, I don’t see Botman or Sanchez joining us in the summer and we NEED a reliable goalscorer asap, guess this is a reality check

    1. I wouldn’t be surprised is Alvarez preferred Man City over Milan. The earning potential in the PL is much higher than in Italy.

    2. You really think Milan or any other Serie A club can compete with City? Nobody would rather go to Italy than to Man City, 80% chance to win PL and a good chance that you will be in semi finals in CL with a team that plays great football. Be reasonable. 😀

    3. The point I am making is that we were looking at Alvarez well over 7 – 8 months ago and he was being linked with Aston Villa then (we can compete with them right?), we just left it,
We were looking at Vlahovic back in may-june 2020 and we just left it (Fiorentina wanted 20 – 25m at the time), we are scouting out the players then hesitating and letting the likes of Man City, Juve, jump in throw more money than we can afford and get these players and I see the same thing happening with Sanches and Botman. The reality is we are budgeted for a top 4 finish where we could be solid contenders with a little investment, and this FFP bull crap means nothing when we are the only ones playing by the rules, everyone else does what they want and uefa does nothing about it.

  3. Sometimes you gotta spend first to make money later on. That’s what Juventus are doing. They’re gambling on Vlahovic to make CL.

    1. Yeah, but if they don’t make CL, it will be sellout time. They will have to come up with over 100M€ at the end of season.
