AC Milan would be in line to net a sizeable boost to their January transfer kitty if they were to make it through to the knockout stages of the Europa League, a report has claimed.
Milan enter the game against Liverpool after wins against Genoa and Salernitana knowing they await a very difficult test. As il Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports, the Rossoneri know what they need to reach the round of 16 of the competition: first of all Pioli’s team will have to beat Liverpool at San Siro tomorrow night and then wait for good news from Portugal where the match between Porto and Atletico Madrid is scheduled.
In the event of a draw Milan will certainly go through, otherwise we must hope for a victory for the LaLiga side, but at that point the goal difference will become decisive. The result against Liverpool is not only important at a sporting level, but also at an economic level as making the knockout stages of the Champions League would bring an extra €15m.
The paper claims that this money could then be invested on the January market to sign a defender in place of the injured Simon Kjaer, though for now the focus is on giving the fans a night to remember at a sold out San Siro.
