AC Milan’s game against Como on Saturday could well be a glimpse into the future, as Cesc Fabregas is on the list of head coaches being considered.
As QS reports this morning, the match at San Siro is a tale of two very different coaches whose destinies could intertwine at the end of the season. On one side Sergio Conceição, seemingly heading for the exit door in June, and on the other is Fabregas.
It has been less than 100 days as the Rossoneri’s coach for the Portuguese, who in a few weeks went from the triumph in the Supercoppa Italiana, to the disappointments in the league and the Champions League, showing himself to be ‘incapable of managing the dressing room’.
Within that time period there was a comeback win against Como away from home, with the team from the lake taking the lead through Assane Diao and giving Milan a real scare, before goals from Theo Hernandez and Rafael Leao secured a win.
It will be a clash of philosophies and paths at the weekend, therefore. There are many names in contention to take over from Conceicao, like Max Allegri (in pole position), Antonio Conte, Carlo Ancelotti (both dreams), Roberto De Zerbi, Vincenzo Italiano, Gian Piero Gasperini and Maurizio Sarri.
However, Fabregas (who Inter also like a lot for the post-Inzaghi era) seems to be the right profile for Milan, a club that by history, culture and tradition has always sought the ‘beautiful game’ and coaches of international standing.
Fabregas, someone who sets up teams in his own image and likeness (like Conte and Guardiola who inspire him) could also bring enthusiasm back to the club. Not an insignificant detail.
I prefer Fabregas to Allegri. Interesting gameplay vs boring and frustating gameplay.
The best coach among mentioned that will manage the characteristics of players available is Gian Piero Gasperini who will be able to manage Leo like Lookman.
I also do
I do as well. Allegri is a step backwards.
His best years were when he took over an already dominant Juve, built and handed to him by Conte, in a period when both Milan and Inter weren’t contending.
No thanks.
We should only sack Conceicao for Gasperini, Conte or Motta. Anything else is just adding to the tactical chaos without a clear cut upgrade.
Gasperini and Motta arent leaving. Conte wont be leaving napoli, even more if we dont have UCL. He will leave end of next year, when tensions begin over not signing his players. LOL it’s his MO. Joins the club, wins, then finds an excuse to fight with team players or owners or w/e then exits.
Unless Fabregas does amazing the rest of the season, all arrows are pointing to allegri. I’m still unsure about it, we will go back to boring 1-0s. At this point, some fans will welcome that.
In the 19/20 season, after the bad start of Pioli, the management led by Gazidis negotiates with Ragnik, which was the reason for Boban’s dismissal. After that, Pioli turned everything around 360 degrees. Let’s wait for Conceição to finish the season. Why do journalists need to do this?
Fabregas is anything BUT the right profile for Milan. Gambles and poor planning is what got us in this mess to begin with. Fabregas is both.
Exactly.
