CorSera: Milan lose further ground on Napoli as Supercoppa becomes a watershed moment

AC Milan slipped nine points behind Napoli in pursuit of the Scudetto as they were held to a 2-2 draw against Lecce last night.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how the Scudetto battle seemed to be between Milan and Napoli heading into the second part of the season but since beginning 2023 with a win over Salernitana, the Rossoneri have stumbled in each game.

A draw with Roma followed when they were 2-0 up with five minutes to go, a defeat against Torino and elimination from the Coppa Italia came after that and then last night a comeback draw against Lecce made it three without a win.

It was a first half at the Stadio Via del Mare where the Rossoneri did not show up at all, going 2-0 down and then recovering the game in the second half thanks to goals from Leao and Calabria, but ultimately the gap to Napoli widened.

On Wednesday in Riyadh the Rossoneri will have Tonali back after he served his suspension, but against Inter it will already be a watershed moment of the season. A win would end the bad moment after two draws and a defeat, relaunching the team, but a defeat could well mean a season without trophies.

The goal is to recover Rebic for the game in Saudi Arabia, while it will take time for Origi to get back in top condition. Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, is an unknown factor: there is no date for his return to the field.
