CM: Milan and Maignan evaluating positions despite verbal agreement

Mike Maignan’s renewal is one of the big priorities for AC Milan. However, the parties are taking a chance to look over everything once again at present.

In recent months, the topic of renewals has been ever-present for Milan, with a number of high-profile players engaging in discussions with the club to extend their deals with the Rossoneri. With Tijjani Reijnders’ deal confirmed, the logical next step is the Frenchmen.

Theo Hernandez and Mike Maignan, though, are seemingly at a similar point, with the club currently not confident of offering them new deals. With that said, things are slightly more confusing with the goalkeeper’s situation.

As Calciomercato.com recalls, the parties verbally agreed on a new deal before the turn of the new year, but now, almost six months later, there has been no movement to officialise the deal. Instead, there is a period of reflection ongoing.

The goalkeeper stated at the weekend that he wanted to focus on football, and this, imaginably, is largely what the new deal depends on, with reports suggesting that the Diavolo are already considering alternate options.

Both parties have no urgency to restart the talks, because only a few details are missing. However, the lack of security with a renewal is probably off-putting. Despite this, Maignan remains Milan’s ideal number one; it just must be proved when the time is right.

  1. I honestly feel we should sell Theo, he still remains a selfish idiot who thinks only about himself, we had a counter opportunity we could have used to score, their were at least 3 people to pass to, instead he decided to shoot the ball sky high, despite the fact he had team mates in very good positions, and it was almost at the end of the match.
As for Mike, he is a good keeper but, honestly this season we have conceded goals he could have stopped from scoring…so we could also cash in on him..we could easily promote Devis Vazquez or better yet go for Alban Lafont…

  2. I think we have many more pressing needs than swapping out a good goalie for an unknown. Much of his issues this season is our defensive line. I would keep Pavlovic because he shows a fighting spirit and Gabbia because he’s suffering from a coach who won’t play him consistently. Everybody else, with the exception of Kyle Walker, who is a needed veteran presence, should be gone. Our defense has been so bad it makes it hard to properly evaluate our midfielders and forwards because they’re so often out of position to cover.

  3. Not really, here’s how it will go down with this rotten ownership’s philosophy:

If he extends he’ll be on a max contract under salary cap meaning, there’s no future for him in this club after this extention.

It will come down to his value. Should they cash in now when there’s something to earn and book a nice capital gain or extend tp max our under salary cap, risk a drop in form and cash on him just to break even.

And that goes for all our prized players and their contracts – Mike, Theo, Leao, Thiaw, Reijnders, Pulisic. Luckily the latter two still have some space until maxing out on salary since they’re on lower. And of course if no one comes and offers inappropriate amount of money.
