GdS: Milan nervously awaiting news on Maignan as January plans could change

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are waiting nervously for the results of Mike Maignan’s scan that will take place today and it could change their January plans, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) write that at the start of the World Cup it was thought that Maignan might be available again for the first match of the second part of the season against Salernitana, but at present that now seems unlikely.

Maignan was part of the group that left for Dubai to do some warm weather training but nothing has changed from the heat and sun of UAE to the harsh temperatures of Milanello as he continues to work in the gym even upon returning to Italy.

The precise extent of the problem is not yet clear but there has not been a new injury or a relapse. Instead, it seems to be more a delay in work and injury recovery program as Milan can only proceed with the utmost caution and for this reason new scans have been arranged for the former Lille man which will probably be carried out in the next few hours.

Only after the exams will Milan be able to have a more complete overview of his new recovery time, and then the management will decide if it is necessary to intervene as early as January to sign a new deputy like Marco Sportiello, considering neither Ciprian Tatarusanu nor Antonio Mirante offer guarantees.

The Atalanta stopper has already been eyed ahead of a potential free transfer to join before the 2023-24 season, but the Maignan situation could make Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara rush things through.
