One of the issues that the AC Milan management must soon tackle is the expiration of Mike Maignan’s contract, but he wants some guarantees.
It is natural to expect that Milan will wait until after the transfer window closes in order to resume talks over the extension of Maignan. However, they will have to approach things in the right way amid the reports of the Frenchman being left ‘angry’ earlier in the year by how things went.

The Maignan mission
As MilanPress report, the directors are looking to the future, and a delicate issue is emerging within the headquarters: the fact that Maignan has less than a year left on his current deal.
The goalkeeper is a cornerstone of the team, a leader in the dressing room, and undoubtedly among the best in the world in his position. For this very reason, his contractual situation deserves close attention.

In recent weeks, the goalkeeper has built a good rapport with Massimiliano Allegri’s new goalkeeping coach, an important sign after a summer of changes. The understanding between the staff and the player represents a positive first step, but it’s not enough to talk about a renewal being close.
The truth is that much will depend on how the season goes. Maignan wants to feel at the centre of a winning project, and the club for their part will have to demonstrate it can guarantee ambitious and consistent results.
Qualification for the Champions League and a competitive run for the Scudetto will be crucial factors in convincing the former Lille player to commit to the Rossoneri for the long term.

He will go out for free, and rightly so after last season. There varius ways to ensure he can leave witout dameging the club (short contract, low by out clause and so on) but non of this is hapening.
“Undoubtedly one of the best keepers in the world…”
Sorry, huge doubts here. I don’t think he ever was one of the best keepers in the world, and currently he’s one of our squad’s major weak points imo. And if were honest, a big achievement for Mike would already be to stay fit the entire season. Every time the guy goes down to the ground, you start praying he gets up.
Still one of the best with ball at his feet I guess, so that’s something
Maybe you are blind, but his save against Bari was top bin. He is excellent with his feet, has insane reaction speed and a very good reach. Can also stop a penalty on the day, therefore you cannot ask for much more from a GK. If Mike is not world class, who do you think is? And let’s be honest who do you think we can replace him with for an upgrade?
Milinkovic-savic was one, he joined Napoli. If you check out Serie A goalkeepers Maignan sits around the middle in most stats but playing with the ball at his feet. How would you rate a goalkeeper like that as world class? You think Chelsea wouldn’t offer more than 16M€ to get a world class keeper?
I’m somewhere between you and Baresis Dream. I don’t think he’s world class, but he’s not just some average GK who’s good with his feet. He’s a good keeper who is good with his feet. Not irreplaceable. If we can extend him for a reasonable salary, fine, but if he walks, we’ll live.
Will the replacement be an “upgrade”? That’s relative. We could get someone who is not as good with their feet, but a much better shot stopper and/or much better in the air (a historical Mike weakpoint). Is that a downgrade or an upgrade? Dunno. Contemporary football is obsessed with “using all 11 players” to build up, and that’s fine, but for me a GK’s no. 1 priority is to keep the ball out of the net. If he does walk I actually wish we’d give Torriani a shot, but this club doesn’t trust its youth products, so likely they’ll go out and get someone else. Who? Doesn’t matter right now. It’s a problem for 2026 and by that time many names can and will emerge.
deluded, he’s better than Dollarumma, Dida, Rossi and any other goalkeepers we’ve ever had – he’s top class in shot stopping, ball playing and leadership
Call me crazy, but I very much liked what I watched from Torriani against Arsenal. I know I’ll get the whole ‘it’s just preseason’ talk. And it’s true. But the kid is special! He was the starting GK for the Primavera a couple of seasons ago when they reached the Youth CL final & lost. That was under Abate. I followed this campaign avidly. Why not give him a chance in the big league?! That’s how Dollarumma & Buffon started…
Blind Men !!!!!! Maignan is one of the best around and should definity be kept now and for the future .
