AC Milan are willing to make an economic effort to show Rafael Leao just how much they want him to stay at the club, a report claims.
MilanNews have provided an update on Leao’s situation starting with Milan’s position on the matter. The Rossoneri have been trying to renew the contract of the winger for months, but the dispute with Sporting CP and a tangled situation regarding his representatives (there is his agent Jorge Mendes but also a French lawyer, and they often have opposite ideas) does not make talks easy.
However, Milan are not losing faith and on the contrary remain confident and optimistic because of one key factor: Leao wants to stay. Maldini and Massara speak with the Portugal international on a daily basis and for months they have felt his desire to stay in order to continue his development.
The report adds that Leao loves Milan as a club, he is happy in the city and with this team, and he also appreciated the role that the management have played in helping him to grow with patience, so the will to renew is there.
However, an economic agreement is needed to turn that into a signature and the request of his agents is around €7m net per season. Milan is trying to reach that figure and are willing to make an effort to reward a player who is simply one of the best in the world in his role.
I’ve always been hesitant to comment on Leao’s contract situations because it’s a delicate issue because of the Sporting catastrophe, which makes it much more difficult to predict the outcome. But I’ll definitely say this; if it’s up to Maldini to get a renewal done, I’m sure he will do everything possible to get Leao an extension with the necessary pay raise. After all, we’re referring to one of Maldinis’ marquee signings since he came on board as management. He’s never been reluctant to express his trust in Leao’s potential and abilities, so I know that he will go all out to secure a renewal.
