Yacine Adli is hoping that his friendly goal against Lumezzane could be the launching pad for a successful second half of the season, but his future must yet be resolved.
La Gazzetta dello Sport writes that there are a couple of questions that dominate the Adli issue. Firstly, why is it that the Frenchman is only given time in friendlies when he impresses in them, as happened in the summer. Then, what will his future be? After the World Cup and the Christmas holidays, Milan will have to make a decision on where he will spend the first few months of 2023.

Adli’s playing time is among the lowest in the squad. Excluding the injured Ibrahimovic and Bakayoko, only Lazetic, Vranckx and Florenzi (who also got injured) have played less than him. The 22-year-old has played only 114 minutes distributed as follows: half an hour against Bologna, 17 against Sassuolo, 8 against Napoli and 60 against Verona, his only start.
It is strange given that in preseason Adli was one of the most positive. He has shown that he can play as a playmaker which is an area Milan have often struggled, but excluding him from the Champions League list and giving only brief chances suggests Pioli isn’t ready to trust him yet.
At the moment he is third in the hierarchy behind De Ketelaere and Brahim Diaz. In recent weeks there has been talk of a loan deal to help his development, but the goal against Lumezzane was a reminder to Pioli what he can do.
After the starting match against Verona, Adli never saw the field again: five benches in a row from Monza to Florence. The Frenchman wants to play and feel like a protagonist, so he must either convince at Milan or the loan idea will gain momentum.
