CM.it: Milan optimistic on two fronts as talks over €35m Asensio deal continue

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in signing Marco Asensio from Real Madrid and believe they can agree a deal, according to a report.

Asensio’s numbers this season are as follows: 35 appearances, 10 goals, 1 assist, but 180 minutes on the bench in the Champions League quarter-final clash against Chelsea. Calciomercato.it report that Asensio feels his performances have been good and he still has a lot to give, but he knows Real Madrid no longer consider him vital.

The Spaniard’s contract will expire in 2023 and Los Blancos will inevitably try to sell him in the summer, which has attracted Milan. The Rossoneri moved well in advance of the competition, entering talks with both Real Madrid and with the player.

Asensio’s current salary including bonuses is around €5m net per season, a figure that – with the assistance of the Growth Decree tax relief scheme – is far from impossible for Milan to match. The first request from his entourage however was above that.

The report adds that such a demand was predictable given the number of suitors that Asensio boasts in the Premier League but the obstacle is not insurmountable, because the idea of becoming a star at Milan fascinates Asensio.

An agreement with Real Madrid also remains to be found, but the LaLiga leaders want around €35m. That part of the talks – thanks to Paolo Maldini’s excellent relationship with Real – should not be an issue.
