Fichajes: Milan to compete with Real Madrid and Man Utd to sign PSV star

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are one of the teams that have registered an interest in signing Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, according to a report.

Fichajes.net report that Real Madrid are following the situation of Gakpo closely as he continues his excellent form from last season given he has racked up 12 goals and 8 assists between the Eredivisie and the UEFA Europa League in 2022-23 so far.

His performances seem to suggest he will not be at PSV for a long time but it is expected that his eventual transfer will exceed €50m, and there are three clubs that will compete with Real Madrid for the signing of the Dutchman.

The first club are Manchester United, and Gakpo was a direct request from head coach Erik Ten Hag, who knows him well from his time coaching Ajax in the Eredivisie. A move did not materialise over the summer, but they will go abck in.

Leeds United are another team that are keen on the 23-year-old who could land at Elland Road to replace Raphinha, who made the move to FC Barcelona over the summer.

Finally, the report states that Milan are also following the development of Gakpo and could try to sign him as early as January or even agree a deal before then, given a good showing at the World Cup in Qatar would raise his price considerably.

  1. His numbers are good, but it’s unlikely we have the financial muscle to compete with Europe’s richest clubs.

He seems to have been PSV’s main man in the last couple seasons. Can play across the front line. But Antonys transfer to United has moved the bar, Eridivisie players aren’t available for the bargain fees of yesteryear.

    1. 100% agreed. Milan have to be a lot smarter in the market, they need to identify played before they’re stars. It’s probably 3-4 years before Milan can spend €50 million on a player.

  2. Sign him as soon aspossible before January
Even before Leao Renewal it Lowers the Crezy Committmentless Want of His Agent as well aa himself.
Eve He can Play as no 10.
And he much better than leao interm of outout and cost. He is also has Datch DNA.
Ww also have new messi and CR7 combine togather(Chack Traore)

  3. Gakpo in place of Leao would be great for the team. Hes more fluid and unpredictable like Rebic so it helps with the formation and can track back better.

  4. Gakpo is AWESOME. I watched all of their Europa Conference League matches last year leading up to their loss in the Final versus Mourinho’s Roma… they are a fun and exciting offensive-minded team to watch and he is absolute budding superstar.

If we could sell Leao for a huge sum to allow us to afford Gakpo (and actually someone else on top of Gakpo), then I think that would be smart business for Milan. I love having Leao and wish he would stay for many years to come; but we can’t control people who want a lot of money and Milan can’t afford or compete with (not yet at least — until we build a new stadium and have consistent Champions League success/money) the richest clubs at this point. So our management has to be smart. It’s not as easy as some people post on these message boards about “just offer $7M and pay the Sporting fee and be done with it” — those people are naive.
