GdS: Milan’s meeting with Theo’s agent yields ‘common desire’ – the situation

AC Milan held talks with the agent of Theo Hernandez during a recent visit to Spain, and the discussions seem to have been positive.

La Gazzetta dello Sport have published a double-page spread about the situations pertaining to contract extensions for some key Milan players, and within it is a section dedicated to Theo.

They speak of a ‘thaw in the relationship with the left-back’ after the initial demands of €8m net per season to renew. That is a figure that goes beyond the internal salary ceiling set by Milan, which is the €7m that Rafael Leao currently gets.

Contacts with Theo and his entourage have continued in recent months, even from before the European Championship when the player was cryptic when asked about his future during the retreat with France.

The news is that in recent days – coinciding with the Champions League trip to Madrid for the match against Real – a face-to-face meeting took place between the Rossoneri management and Manuel Garcia Quilon, Hernandez’s agent.

The starting point is the ‘common desire to move forward together’ as per the paper and now an agreement on the figures will have to be found. Theo, who almost always wears the captain’s armband, earns €4.5m net per year and would like a Leao-level salary.

Compared to Mike Maignan, the amount of work to be done is greater, but now the optimism has grown. The agreement would run until 2029, with the idea being that Hernandez would be more relaxed and perhaps would return to performing as in the past.

In terms of the rumours suggesting an unhappiness during his sixth year at the club, La Gazzetta write that Theo is fine at Milan, he sees the project as ‘fascinating’ and knows that ‘top players wink at the Diavolo’.

  1. Of course he wants to stay here. He wouldn’t get away with his poor attitude and lack of defensive effort at any other big club. And we reward him with the captain’s armband. Brilliant.

  2. I’m probably being biased as I’m no longer a fan of Hernandez. But something needs to change fast or I’d sell this jerk, he’s got a terrible attitude, one dimensional and lazy. For years everyone slept on his poor attitude while they went after leao. Well I’ve never seen Leao single handedly lose Milan points. I’ve seen this Theo a**hole lose Milan points in three games over 2 1/2 months. As I said on the game thread, Theo couldn’t mark paper with a pen. A one legged Calabria looks no worse than Theo at this point.
