Tuttosport: Milan’s midfield mystery – the latest on Onana, Grillitsch and Bakayoko

By Oliver Fisher -

Now that Renato Sanches has officially joined Paris Saint-Germain, there are some doubts about who AC Milan’s midfield recruit will be.

According to Tuttosport (via MilanNews), there are three names that have been circulating since Sanches joined PSG: Jean Onana of Bordeaux, Florian Grillitsch who is a free agent after leaving Hoffenheim and Sassuolo’s Davide Frattesi.

The latter is deemed to be too complicated to be a real target, while there does not seem to be any substance to the Onana and Grillitsch links as per the paper, so it is likely that the concrete objective either hasn’t been identified yet or his name is not in circulation.

One thing is certain: Tiemouè Bakayoko will only leave if another reinforcement in the midfield arrives first. The Frenchman is in his second year on loan from Chelsea but has found little playing time, yet Milan still feel they must replace him numerically.

    1. I assume you’re talking about Grillitsch, and I agree. He’s more than fine for a reserve. And with him, we also kill two birds with one stone, since he plays both CB and DM.

      1. Both CB and DM? In that case, terminate the loan of both Bakayoko and Diaz to make Serie A non-homegrown space. Ibra still injured so he doesn’t need to be registered yet, who will be removed at Januari to make space for Ibra can be decided later.

        Nb:
        Serie A non-homegrown limit – 17 (except U21) – Currently 19 at Milan
UCL non-homegrown limit – 17 (except U21 who have been at the club for at least 2 years) – Currently 21 at Milan

  1. @Oliver Fisher:

Is it true that Serie A also has non-homegrown limit, but it does not apply to U-21 (UCL has this as B list but the players have to be in the club for at least 2 years; no 2 years requirement in Serie A)?

I read this in an article you wrote few months ago.

If it is true, doesn’t that means from 19 non-homegrown who are not U-21 (CDK & Lazetic), only 17 can be registered at Serie A?

In that case, Milan really have to remove at least 1 homegrown in the summer (the other 1 can wait as Ibra is still injured) and the replacement can only be a homegrown player, isn’t it?

      1. Don’t you understand any of it?

If Serie A really have non-homegrown above 21 years old limit. That means Milan cannot register 2 players as of now.

This is just not UCL, this is whole season. All of you who keep pushing for 5th CB or replacing Bakayoko, listen to this: one of them must be homegrown, otherwise one of them cannot be registered.

        1. And the other one need to be U-21 player which means out of the names circulated, the most sensible one is Pape Matar Sarr.
