CM: Milan must accelerate Bennacer and Leao renewals after Maldini signs – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan must begin work on player renewals after they have secured the extension of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com starts by talking about Ismael Bennacer, with whom a verbal agreement was reached between February and March over a four-year deal (until 2026) worth €3m net per season.

However, the player has postponed the signing and asked for time to learn about RedBird’s project and to complete the season finale with the Scudetto at stake. Now those aspects are resolved, discussions must be reopened to get pen on paper.

The change of ownership also inevitably slowed down the Rafael Leao talks, and in the meantime the €16.5m fine that he must pay to Sporting CP has changed things. The first proposal formulated by Maldini and Massara to his agent Jorge Mendes in February was around €4.5m net per season plus bonuses, but now the request is at €6.5m plus bonuses.

The dialogues continued with the possibility of closing halfway between the current offer and demand, also strengthened by the will of the Portuguese winger to stay, but now an important acceleration must arrive.
