Milan links, Napoli rejection, Chelsea talks – Conte’s future remains an enigma

By Oliver Fisher -

Antonio Conte is a name that continues to be mentioned regularly in the media given his desire to return to coaching, but it seems he is struggling to find a club who want him.

Conte has been out of work since leaving Spurs around one year ago and he is believed to be ready for a comeback, but several sources have claimed that Milan are not interested in hiring him even if he would not make his usual demands in terms of salary and investment.

Napoli were mentioned as a possible alternative option for Conte, but Radio Kiss Kiss (via Radio Rossonera) are reporting that they have now ‘abandoned’ the idea of hiring the former Juventus and Inter boss.

They even add that Stefano Pioli is in fact one of the main candidates to take over at Napoli now that Conte’s candidacy seems to have faded, perhaps showing that they are going for a stabiliser rather than a revolution.

Meanwhile, La Repubblica are reporting that Chelsea could try to bring Conte back, the club with whom he has already won a Premier League title. The Londoners are in fact inclined to sack Mauricio Pochettino at the end of the season, given the terrible results obtained.

The owners are dreaming big and close contacts with the entourage of Conte have already taken place in the last few hours, even if denials have also come out.

  1. It’s notable that the only clubs that seem to be interested are an English club in turmoil, an Italian club in turmoil…..and us.

    1. I dont think he will get job next season unless he accept napoli offer. Chelsea wont sack poche. Club in turmoil that can pay his salary and satisfied his demand for big transfer budget only left Bayern Muenchen and maybe MU ( if MU sacked ten haag)

  2. Call me crazy, but I think he’d do good at Chelsea. Lots of money to spend for players he likes, a team where he has coached before and is familiar with internal structures, etc. Plus Chelsea players would benefit from some discipline.

The only caveat is that he asked to leave Tottenham because he wanted to be closer to family in Italy and couldn’t support all the trips back and forth from England to Italy …and if he joins Chelsea instead that immediately makes that a lie.

  3. Conte is the best name out there, and the only one who is a clear upgrade on Pioli imo. His work at Juventus shows he can stabilize a team’s defense, which is exactly what we need right now.

But he’s very difficult for a management to work with. If he and Cardinal can somehow find the chemistry, this could be exactly what we need to curve the “algorithm” of our scouting system.

  4. That’s good news. Considering he’ll have his budget for his new shiny players, maybe we can get some more from their updated rooster of unwanted.
