Among the profiles followed and appreciated by Milan on the mercato, several of them are so-called non-EU players. The Rossoneri can only register a maximum of two this summer, though.
As highlighted by our colleagues at SempreMilan.it, Milan will have to make careful evaluations as they only can register one non-EU player without restrictions. Two are possible, but then one of the current non-EU players must leave.
Devis Vasquez is destined to leave and Messias could depart as well, which would allow Milan to make the second non-EU signing. However, it should be noted that they cannot register more than two, even if several non-EU players were to leave. The other players currently in the squad are Tomori, Krunic, Messias and Lazetic.
On the market, Milan are following the likes of Arda Guler (Turkey), Daichi Kamada (Japan), Ruben Loftus-Cheek (England) and Samuel Chukwueze (Nigeria). Careful evaluations must be made, therefore, as they all cannot arrive.
The rule, which was created by the FIGC, aims to ensure a balance in the composition of the teams, promoting the use of EU players and limiting the number of non-EU players in the team squads.
This is what happens when your club is run by bunch of noobs.
Kamada and Chukwueze seems the most logical singings. Kamada would be free, and selling Messias would open more space for Saelemaekers with Chukwueze.
Then we would need midfielder and possible 1 or 2 strikers.
@Milanelo
Agreed with those trades but the question is, who would buy Messias? He’s a non descript 32 year old winger. Unless we’re prepared to let him go for a capital loss (ie sub 4mn) I doubt anyone pays the asking price. And what we’re seeing so far from the board is they’re more interested in the accounts short term than the squad strength
torino apparentlly has shown interest in messias recently and i dont think he has a very daunting salary so it should be within their means but we will see if we can offload him.
They are looking at markets all over the world and that is the problem, puck what you want and go for it, indecision is what will make us get players who will not succeed.
For me Torino and Udinese have exactly what we want:
Vlasic, Shurrs and Simgo (Torino)
And
BETO and Lazar Samardžić
Add to this Kamada and 80% of our market done
But those transfers would cost us well over 100 ,mil and propably more like 150 mil and i doubt we will invest that much money as that isnt how the club will be operated with their moneyball approach.
Agreed @Milanelo – even tho Kamada has no resale value I can see us getting him because a he’s free and then Güler because he’s way cheaper the the the RW from Villarreal (who has resale value but not as much and is way too expensive) and Güler has the greatest resale value likely of them all.
Those seem to be our most realistic options. FREE and young and cheap. The Redbird Way!
I dont know why buy deviz vasquez 500k euro in january . This looks like stupid decision. Now you must get rid selling junior messias, devis vasquez and loan lazetic to other club. Kamada & samuel are priority for non EU slot
Because if Milan didn’t register a non-EU-player in january window they would lose the option to buy two non-EU players in this one.
It’s hard to explain the non-EU rule as it is very complicated. In short, what @Clarence said is correct.
Normally, a Serie A club can buy non-EU players untill they reach the limit (3) but the limit can be increased by buying non-EU from Italian league. Note that non-EU signing from abroad is also limited by 2 per season.
Milan have 4 non-EU players at the start of the season, but mid-season, Milan loaned Lazetic out. If by 30 June 2023 no one occupy the 4th slot left behind by Lazetic, the slot will be lost so Milan can only have 3 non-EU players next season (unless Milan increase it with non-EU signings from Italian league).
Vazques was bought to keep the 4th slot left behind by Lazetic.
If loaned players still counted on the roster, that means Vasquez was bought to hold the spot left behind by Leo Duarte instead of Lazetic.
I thought these rules only applied to players who come from outside Italy?
Also, surely Messias has an Italian passport by now?
He is eligible but he has not apply for it.
So how does the rule actually work?
Is there both an overall limit and a max number of non-EU players you can sign in each transfer window?
The article doesn’t explain it fully.
If a Serie A club has exactly two non-EU players in the roster on the 30th of June 2023, the club is entitled to buy one non-EU player from a foreign club without any restriction, until the limit of three is reached. Additionally the club can buy one additional non-EU player from a foreign club, provided that he replaces a non-EU player on at least one of these below mentioned conditions:
• The replaced player is sold to a foreign club
• The replaced player contract expired on 30/06/2023
• The replaced player obtained European citizenship after the 1st of February 2023
If a Serie A team has three or more non-EU players in the roster on the 30th of June 2023, the club is entitled to buy two non-EU players from foreign clubs provided that both of them replace a non-EU player each on at least one of these below mentioned conditions:
• The replaced player is sold to a foreign club
• The replaced player contract expired on June 30, 2023
• The replaced player obtained European citizenship after the 1st of February 2023
Serie A teams can buy non-EU players within the Italian market with no restriction.
Thanks for explaining. I wondered why used an non-EU slot for Vasquez in January. It all makes sense now that it was a cheap way to keep our options open.
