AC Milan were victorious against Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday night, but the result was far from a good one. The Rossoneri were unconvincing once again and questions are being asked.
There are points of a season where three points can no longer be seen as a sole positive, Milan have approached this point now. Questions are being consistently asked about the system employed by Paulo Fonseca, given the side were once again questionable against a ‘weaker side’.
For comparison, against Real Madrid, Fonseca got his side spot on, and this showed in the performance and result. In Slovakia though, the performance was not up to scratch and for large periods the squad looked somewhat lost, devoid of any ideas.
This is without even mentioning the defence, which in itself is problematic.
As Tuttosport (via Milan News) highlights, the Diavolo have now conceded 22 goals in 17 games, after conceding another two against Slovan. The reason for the consistent leak remains unknown at least to the head coach, but the problems are seemingly blatant.
Currently, there is no solidity in the defence, and Fonseca continues to change his backline, which only harms the players in the long run, and with constant changes to partners, there can be no time to warm up to a specified partner.
The problem possibly deepens too. Systematically, Fonseca’s side are flawed and the midfield partnership of Tijjani Reijnders and Youssouf Fofana is ‘not enough’. Maybe the solution is to enter a new player into the mix, perhaps Ismael Bennacer as suggested by the paper.
Ultimately, something must change, and Fonseca must look at the bigger picture.
Rensch and Parisi would be more useful ngl…
We need RB and a sub LB
All the articles about Milan’s cluelessness is getting a bit tiring. Everyone is seeing it but the coach. Like the article says If 3 points are the only positives then we have reason to be worried….
Please no matter what Acmilan is getting it right bit by bit at least we won away with 3 points now what we should be worried about is style of play so I advised Acmilan should be pressing the opponent with balls not given the opponent a chance then our wingers should be taking long short to score goals when they’re in the box of the opponent then maignan should be targeting Morata with long balls for Morata to score now our problem is our style of play Acmilan should work on it.
Sorry for the total off-topic, but last night I was browsing the matches that are yet to be played by mid-season in serie A. Maybe not a bad idea to put an article with comparison of the matches in the top of the table – the idea is many of the clubs ahead of us have at least 2-3 games against each other in the remaining 6 rounds, which means a lot of points will be dropped. Hopefully we stabilize the defensive part so we get our points in the meantime.
All that said, it does not fix our issues in any way, but if we start playing with a decent defense, we are not that far from the top of the table as it appears at the moment, similar to the CL ranking.
I did like Fonseca’s guts to bench Leao and Theo when they were underperforming and of course the win against Madrid and Inter were masterclass, but other than that we have nothing to show off for.
We’re currently 7th in serie A and even if we win our game in hand (not a given) we will still be 7th in serie A 6 points behind the UCL spot. We only won 5 out of 12 games and gave away points to the likes of Cagliari, Parma and Torino. We’ve never won 3 games in a row and the last time we’ve won 2 games in a row in serie A was in september. Yes we beat Real Madrid, but so did Lille who is currently fourth in Ligue 1.
Regardless of how you want to interpret Fonseca’s style (if there is a style) and how much he is an upgrade/downgrade from Pioli the facts say that we are currently a mid-table team. If the situation remains as it is, we won even make it to Conference League, let alone Champions League.
Fonseca has in my opinion 3 serie A games to fix our ranking, failure to do so should result in his contract termination and those who hired him should be sacked as well.
In some moments I like how Fonseca know how to prepare players for match , like against Inter or Real where we was dominate against the strong side. But still don’t understand how it is possible he don’t know how to play against lower side… match against Slovan and Cagliari show us he don’t know what to do and don’t know how to motivated players. It’s impossible we play all match for draw with that teams..
It’s time to go after match against Empoli, not wait until Christmas break, it will be to late for chances for next CL .. hope are trio see it too
Fonseca can”t resolve Milan defensive and tactical problems.I agree with some of you who said about the victory against Real and Inter, but the main situation is the team problems, always the same.I think he is the kind of coach who wants to implement his philosophy without looking at the players at his disposal. Why insist in 2 midfielder with that defensive problems?changing defenders every game is not solving the problem. Why not try 3?at least try something different. Some people will say that players are bad(I disagree),but the coach is there to minimize this.I’m not a fan to change everytime the coach, but with Fonseca i can’t imagine team evolving(same problems everytime).Grab Conceiçao,at least he will try something different
Agree totally!!!!!
