MN: Predicted Milan XI to face Cagliari – Calabria to be given opportunity

AC Milan face Cagliari at San Siro tomorrow evening, and Sergio Conceicao is being forced into a change at the back with Emerson Royal suspended.

Since the return from Saudi Arabia, and in fairness, even before it, Conceicao has stated that Milan must look further than a two-game competition, and in his press conference today, he repeated the message. Demanding the best from his players with a mountain to climb.

We also will get a chance to see his near full-strength Rossoneri eleven in action, and Milan News has provided a look at which team may start.

Mike Maignan will retain his place, no shocks there, and the defence will remain almost fully unchanged; Malick Thiaw and Fikayo Tomori start together in the centre again, with Theo Hernandez at left-back.

Davide Calabria is set to start it seems though, despite earlier suggestions that his Spanish counterpart was favoured from the beginning.

In midfield, Yunus Musah will partner Youssouf Fofana in the pivot, which will see Tijjani Reijnders in a more advanced role behind the striker.

Conceicao will be able to rely on his two attacking stars from the start back at San Siro, as Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao are expected to start together once again. Alvaro Morata will then lead the line, no shocks there.

Probable Milan XI (4-2-3-1): Maignan; Calabria, Tomori, Thiaw, Theo; Fofana, Musah; Pulisic, Reijnders, Leao; Morata.

Our pre-match preview is available, as always before the game, and includes the full rundown on both teams as well as the key stats!

  1. Tomori again…I guess any coach we have is going to pick one player that is at odds with the current. I think we’ll win this match, but now I expect us to concede.

    1. Tomori is a good player! Remember it was only 2 years ago he was our best defender! It’s just confidence! And I believe sergio will give him that ..hence sergio believes in him and understands that Tomori can be good again! So give him a chance under sergio πŸ‘

    2. Fonseca tried Thiaw-Gabbia for the last 6 matches. Out of 18 points, we dropped 9 of them.

If we hadn’t dropped those points, we’d be sitting in 4th place with 2 games in hand. Potentially within striking distance of the top of the league.

Clearly, something wasn’t working with that tactic.

      1. Red herring. You forgot to mention that four of those six games were CLEAN SHEETS for the defense. How are Gabbia-Thiaw (and the defense) responsible for losing points when they don’t conceded? Dumbass. Those lost points are all of those draws where our offense did not score or barely scored? Juve 0-0, Genoa 0-0, Roma 1-1. That’s 6 of the 9 points dropped, plus the loss to Atalanta is 9. Maybe Tomori can play striker?

    3. Guess we can’t blame him after his two first games where positive with the current pairing makes no sense if looking from his perspective to change these things now. Regardless of how much I want to see Gabbia Tomori will probably start as long as he performs under him

    1. We literally just win against Juve and Inter with Emmerson starting. These people never let facts get in the way of their stupid opinion.

We’ll win if Theo decides he wants to play defense this game. I would urge anyone just to go back and watch the highlights of our 3-3 draw against Cagliari. All 3 goals were from Theo not marking anyone and half-assed effort.
Theo is responsible more more goals conceded this season than all the rest of our defenders combined but nobody says a word about it. Just blame Emmerson for everything.

    1. That’s exactly the case, Conceicao runs a high press, which Tomori, with his speed and aggressiveness is ideal for.
Thiaw or Gabbia can be used to mop up any mistakes the other defenders make.

      1. So we’re back to Pioli. And in Conceicao’s two games in charge, which we did win, we’ve conceded 3 goals. Meanwhile, against the same opposition Fonseca conceded 1 goal (0-0 v Juve, 2-1 v Inter). Let’s see how long the high press lasts with headless chicken Tomori back in.

  2. Hopefully we can break the trend of winning against the best and losing against snitzels, it’s gonna be a interesting match and I think a ein here will give us the boost we need to continue with consistency

  3. I’d love to see Abraham start instead of Morata.
Keen to see how Calabria plays.

Also keen to see what the formation actually is. Suspect it will be more 433in reality.

  4. All our own is to blame blame and blame players; Pls try and support any player that is on d pitch, the coach knows his tactics and the players that fits it. Have not seen someone people with positive comments on our team,is just negative -negative. Pls join another team abeg.

    1. Exactly! That why many people here will never be able to manage a group effectively. Blaming everything and everyone but themselves. Today Morata (who is our official CF) is leading the attack, someone prefers Tammy (who is a loaned player and could return to his club at the end of the season). Blaming Emerson while he has played better than Theo in the last few games before Conceicao. Most of these Sempre Milan followers don’t just think well, it all emotions.

    2. Yes I agree with you! It doesnt matter if we win or loose some people always find something to complain about.

      Forza Milan β€πŸ–€πŸ–€β€
