Milan Primavera 1-1 Real Madrid (4-3p): Abate’s side make Youth League final four again

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan’s Primavera side reached the final four of the UEFA Youth League for the second season in a row as they beat Real Madrid at the PUMA House of Football in a penalty shootout.

The away side were the ones who took the lead and it came in controversial fashion just after the half-hour mark. Gonzalo made a run down the right wing that seemed to surprise Magni who stuck out a leg, with the linesman signalling for a penalty.

Not only did the replays suggest Gonzalo was offside before starting his run, but Magni definitely got the ball too. Nonetheless, the winger tucked past Raveyre – who kept the deficit to just one goal with some great saves – to make it 1-0.

In the second half Milan drew themselves level after just a few minutes and the goal came from Diego Sia. A ball was allowed to bounce inside the box and Sia latched onto it, finishing between the legs of Quetglas from deep inside the box.

In the shootout, Bartesaghi, Simic and Simmelhack all scored for Milan while Yanez and Fortuny missed for Real. That meant Scotti could win it but his shot was saved, though Zeroli stepped up and beat Quetglas to seal a 4-3 win on penalties.

Abate was emotional after beating Braga in the last round and it is hard to imagine he was any less so after such a dramatic win.

  1. Congrats to Abate and the boys. Proved that last season wasn’t just a fluke and that Milan is doing a great job with their youth teams.

    1. now if they only get better chances, can´t get over the fact how well simic performed just to be put on the bench again

  2. Glad to see Abate continuing to show promose with the young players. I’d love to see one of our own potentially have a Xabi Alonso type career in management. Definitely let him keep learning his trade with the youth teams. Bravo
