Milan Primavera demonstrate fluid 2-3-2-3 build-up under Ignazio Abate

By Oliver Fisher -

There has been a lot of talk about Ignazio Abate’s Primavera side so far this season given their exploits in the UEFA Youth League in particular, and another important league win arrived on Sunday.

There was to be no European hangover after the win against Real Madrid as the Rossoneri were dominant against Lazio and manage to get the two goals their performance deserved in the final third of the game.

Scout7Calcio has published a tweet which highlights how Abate used a 2-3-2-3 build-up against Lazio, but the positions were not set as players were free to interchange.

There are some examples where you could see the same 2-3-2-3 build-up structure, but with different players in different positions.

Stalmach changing with Simic, Bartesaghi swapping with Sala, Bonomi rotating with Bartesaghi, Sala interchanging with Simic were all on display, but the most important thing was that all of this rotating would happen simultaneously, so to not leave a gap somewhere.

For example, if Stalmach dropped deep and Simic did not move up there is now a 3-2 instead of the 2-3. That way, gaps in Lazio’s block opened up with players looking to follow their marking assigment, while a Milan man would occupy the space left open.

  1. I hope Abate continues to improve his coaching skills and tactics. Seems like he is studying Thiago Motta football thesis.
