Mediaset: Milan ready to launch a new offer to Leao amid worries over current deadline

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are plotting a new offer to Rafael Leao’s entourage in a bid to get him to extend his contract with the club, a report claims.

According to SportMediaset (via MilanLive), Milan strongly believe in Leao and also believe that they can extend his current contract which expires in June 2024. Contacts with the entourage have been going on for some time, but there is still no economic agreement.

Without a signature the rumours of interest from top European clubs becomes more worrying, as does the prospect of having to sell him at the end of the current season (summer 2023) when he will be a year from expiry, given the subsequent risk of losing him on a free transfer the following year.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have therefore jumped into action and they are planning to offer the Portugal international €6m net per year. It remains to be seen if that amount is enough to convince Leao’s entourage, but he currently earns €1.5m net per season and the first proposal was around €4.5m.
