Sky: Milan still trying for Renato Sanches but talks held with River Plate star in Argentina

By Oliver Fisher -

More confirmations have arrived regarding the news that AC Milan are being forced to evaluate alternative transfer targets to Renato Sanches.

Gianluca Di Marzio spoke on Sky (via MilanNews) late last night and confirmed there were talks yesterday between RedBird Capital, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara over their contract extensions, which they hope will be done by the end of the week.

If it is done quickly, it will allow Milan to accelerate their pursuit of Renato Sanches even if the competition of PSG has changed things given their ability to make a higher bid, plus there is a great relationship between Christophe Galtier (their incoming head coach), Luis Campos (new sporting director) and the player.

As long as there is a chance Milan will keep going because the player has been identified as plan A, B and C. Maldini and Massara want Renato Sanches, while another target that Milan have held talks over – Enzo Fernandez of River Plate – waiting for a call.

Moncada has even been in Argentina to talk to the player, who is also waiting for a call from Milan, even though Benfica and Wolverhampton are ready to sign him now. Of course, the outcome of the Renato Sanches situation is key.

  1. Odd article claiming Sanches is “plan A, B, and C” while going out of the way to mention previous inquiries with Fernandez. One would think that if Fernandez is mentioned as an alternative, he would be a plan B, otherwise why bother mentioning him.
