Among the moves by Stefano Pioli that were decisive in the 4-0 win against Napoli was the decision to field Rade Krunic, Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer, but not in a midfield three.
As Tuttosport (via MilanNews) explains this morning, it is a move that Pioli often used in the finale of last season and was decisive for winning the Scudetto as Franck Kessie was pushed up to play behind the striker.
However, the central attacking midfielder was not Krunic for the game at the Maradona but instead it was Bennacer, marking another ‘Piolata’ that surprised Luciano Spalletti and was again decisive in the victory.
Will Pioli continue with this line-up in the coming games as well? There could well be some changes of personnel and how the roles are interpreted, but it feels like the three midfielders could be used in all the matches awaiting Milan in the next few weeks.
pioli adamantly called his system 4231. but they always play a 433 all along.
