Forwards like Baggio, Totti, Del Piero, Zola, Inzaghi and Vieri are examples of the quality I’m used to seeing Italy produce. It’s difficult to watch this generation of Italian attackers, none come close to great Italian forwards of the recent past. I recall seeing Balotelli for the first time and said…whoa, here we go Italy…then he just slowly self-destructed. Haven’t seen anyone terribly exciting since, including Retegui.

Folks will take every opportunity to bash Italian NT and players but these same Italians are doing quite well in their clubs. Much much better than we are with our foreigners swamped team.
The problem with our foreign team is that most of the players are bad.
Among yesterday’s starters, only Donnarumma, Tonali and Udogie play outside of serie A and the latter’s team finished 17th in the EPL..
For the others, it’s easy to say that they’re doing well when their clubs’ amibition is just to finish above 18th place. In the end, every Italian club in the UCL got humiliated pretty badly. But I guess with the current management, we’re just trying to get 4th position, not the scudetto and certainly not the UCL.
I’m not saying we should buy Italian players, but just get the very few good ones or a rising promising one.
