AC Milan are one of the teams interested in signing Benfica midfielder Julian Weigl this summer, according to a report.
It is now well known that Franck Kessie is set to depart Milan on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract ends so the management are moving ahead of time to try and secure his replacement in good time.
According to Bild in Germany, Milan are in the race for Julian Weigl, a player who has rediscovered his best form since swapping Borussia Dortmund for Benfica, having made 37 appearances for them so far this season, amassing 3 goals and 5 assists.
He has the physicality to be a defensive midfielder starting at 1.90m tall, but at the same time has very good feet and is good at playing the combative role. Despite having a contract until 2024 with the Lisbon club, he could leave Benfica for an offer of around €20m.
The 26-year-old for his part is looking for a new challenge and Italy might appeal but Milan will have to deal with the competition from Roma as José Mourinho wants to add physicality and quality to the precarious midfield of the Giallorossi.
