CorSera: Milan scrape past Fiorentina showing familiar struggles – the break must be a reset

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were able to ensure that they go into the World Cup break in the right way with a 2-1 win over Fiorentina, but it did not come easily.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how an own-goal by Nikola Milenkovic in added time gave Milan what is a very important victory against Fiorentina for various reasons. Firstly there is the table, given that Napoli are now back to eight points away, but crucially it is also a big win for morale because the next month and a half will be a bit more serene.

The break comes at the right time because in recent weeks we have seen a Milan with less energy and certainly more fatigue, which has meant that they struggled a lot even in their recent wins (Spezia required a late goal too).

Pioli’s men will not give up in their battle to overthrow Napoli but a different team will be needed in 2023 because the one seen in recent weeks will not be enough. However, the last minute victory against Fiorentina confirms once again the great character of the group who fight right until the end.

Now the break will be used to recharge batteries and to prepare for the second part of the season in which the Diavolo will play four competitions: Serie A, Champions League, Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.
