AC Milan took to the field against Hellas Verona last night knowing they needed a win to reclaim top spot, and they came from behind to secure a vital three points.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports Milan – in the space of ten minutes either side of half-time – turned the game against Verona on its head and now they just need four points to be league winners.
The pattern was the same in both goals: a dribble by Rafael Leao and a tap-in for Sandro Tonali, who scored a brace on his birthday to win the game. In the final stages Alessandro Florenzi’s return to the pitch was marked by an excellent half-volley to round off the scoring.
As Stefano Pioli himself explained after the end of the match, it is forbidden to think too far ahead and there is very little time to enjoy the win because the game against Atalanta scheduled for Sunday at 6pm at San Siro is the next final.
The game was really an enthralling one. Didn’t realise it was 90+3 minutes until I looked at the clock. I love this young Milan team. What a game and a champion comeback!
