The league is an uphill battle at present, the Coppa Italia campaign starts tonight, the Supercoppa Italiana will be decided next week Saudi Arabia, and the Champions League last 16 begins next month against Spurs. The objective of Pioli is to build a winning mentality and a hunger to raise trophies.
Milan have faced Torino frequently in the cup such as in 2020, when the Rossoneri equalised in injury time to make it 2-2 and prevailed 4-2 after extra-time. The following year it even took penalties to beat the resistance of Toro who lost after Rincon missed his spot kick.
The last time Milan won the Coppa Italia was in 2003, back when the final was still being played over two legs the trophy was lifted by Paolo Maldini. This year the opportunity is there, given Fiorentina or Sampdoria would await in the quarter-finals and then likely either Roma or Napoli in the semi-finals.
