Di Marzio: Milan edge closer to signing Wolfsburg midfielder on initial loan deal

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan have moved a step closer to signing Aster Vranckx from Wolfsburg on an initial loan deal with a view to a permanent move, a report claims.

As has been reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Vranckx is one of the names that has been evaluated by the Rossoneri management in recent weeks to add more depth to the midfield which looks one player short.

There has been contact between the two clubs in recent hours and they are now very close to agreeing on a fee.

The formula is expected to be an onerous loan with an option to make the deal permanent. Wolfsburg would like to receive €13 million for the player next summer but Milan are currently looking at a fee of €11.5m.

The 19-year-old Belgian’s arrival is not believed to be linked to any possible exit for Tiemoue Bakayoko which means that deal should not hold up the arrival of Vranckx.

  1. We can only hope he leaves regardless. Its clear he is not wanted and for his sake he should try to find a club with lesser expectations.

  2. Bakayoko has no reason to compromise on wages, or to join a club he doesn’t want. Even if he rots on our bench for a year picking up a paycheck.

Mistake we made to sign him on a 2 year loan with potentially an obligation to sign (if its triggered via appearances) and this is the consequence.

    1. Well to be honest, the deal looked pretty good at the first place, assuming he’d deliver the same performance like the previous term on Milan. We knew we’d loose Kessie one way or another, and Bakayoko seemed like a perfect replacement. Maybe it’s a destiny that we replace Franck with another Vranckx.

  3. Morgan I know for sure that Bakayoko can play in this Milan side if he works hard and get back to his former self… I think the management still believes in him , they know his capabilities and they know that if he gets back to his former self, he would be an important asset for Milan and we could even want to buy him!
Don’t forget that same Bakayoko made Kessie sit on the bench and he was a real beast in the middle of the park for us!
He’s got physicality and Milan lacks physicality in the middle of the park and to be honest, I think he can redeem himself and contribute a lot this season!
I think he wants to fight for a place and he had 1 year to adapt to Pioli’s system!
Bakayoko is used to playing as a regista in the 433 system, he is having a lot of difficulty with the double pivot system! Tonali had the same difficulty when he joined us

    1. Agree to an extent. I believe, Milan wants Bakayoko on a free. The reason he is not playing is because if he plays a certain amount of games, Milan will have to pay Chelsea, because it becomes an obligation. Milan don’t want to pay the ridiculous amount Chelsea wants. I believe Baka himself knows and that’s why he’s not asking to go. If he returns to Chelsea, they can try and push him to another club which he doesn’t like. I think his contract ends with Chelsea ends at the end of this season.

      1. Seems like a plan, only that it’s not. Maybe you forgot but before we closed the 2 years loan deal, Chelsea had first extended Bakayoko’s contract for 1 year (till 2024). No way that we can fool around with Chelsea. Just like they did with Giroud. Even if it only earned ’em 1 mil. Still better than nothing.

      2. The problem is there is not enough Serie A squad slots to accomodate 18 non-homegrown players who are not U21.

This is why Milan has to replace Bakayoko with Vranckx and also why Milan has to settle for Thiaw for defensive reinforcement. Both of them are U21 (along with CDK) so they don’t use the registration slots.

Nb: note that changing Serie A squad registration game by game only works during transfer window, once the window close, the registration is fixed with some long term injury related exception.

  4. We better sign him.. reasons being he is still young and he can improve in Milan. We need to get him before other clubs comes with their offers because if they do his club might ask for more cash
