CF: Milan spend the least on wages of the big four – why it must change next season

This morning, a report has looked at the money spent by AC Milan on the wage bill and why there must be a change in the near future.

In recent years, Milan’s spending has been scrutinised heavily. RedBird have been regularly criticised for their methods of investing in youth with a view to sell them on, rather than signing established stars.

However, that motivation may have changed with the appointment of Massimiliano Allegri, who demands readily solid talent.

A shift in the mercato

As MilanNews relays from Calcio e Finanza, the Rossoneri are the lowest spending of the Italian big four when it comes to the wage bill. Indeed, they sit below Inter, Juventus, Napoli and Roma and the gap is staggering.

Per season, the Rossoneri are spending around €104.5 million on their wage bill, whilst their city rivals and Scudetto leaders are spending €141.5m per season. However, they have an undoubtedly better squad.

In short, the numbers are justified.

Whilst the Diavolo do spend money on the market, there are suggestions that they spend it wrongly. Samuele Ricci, a big signing at €24m, but only with a €1.5m contract. Ardon Jashari? €35m, just to sit on the bench, with a €2m salary.

Indeed, the gambles must stop. Allegri has, and will continue to, demand as much.
