‘He would beat Lautaro’ – Milan urged to sign Icardi by two former players

By Oliver Fisher -

Former midfielder Valon Behrami has urged AC Milan to sign Mauro Icardi this summer, believing that he could be the striker who helps them knock Inter off their perch.

During the post-match coverage after Milan’s win against Fiorentina on Saturday night, on the DAZN broadcast there was a discussion about who could be Milan’s starting striker next season given that Olivier Giroud is likely to leave.

The former Fiorentina midfielder Behrami made his thoughts clear in the studio, imploring the Rossoneri to bring Icardi back to Serie A after he left Inter a few years ago for Paris Saint-Germain.

“If you have to look for an anti-Inter team in the future, you’ll see it at Milan. With this coach and with the addition of 2-3 players. Objectively, they’re the ones that – compared with Inter – have the smallest gap compared to the others,” he said (via PianetaMilan).

Emanuele Giaccherini, Marco Parolo and Alessandro Matri were also part of the debate, the rest of which went as follows.

Behrami: “Icardi would gladly return to Milan and be top scorer with Milan, he would beat Lautaro. Icardi has a crazy personality, he is very cold and responsibility never weighs on him, despite the fact that he has always been criticised a lot. He is an extraordinary player.”

Giaccherini: “Milan need a striker who scores at least 15 goals, and Zirkzee isn’t that for me.”

Parolo: “Zirkzee gets 15 at Milan easily and makes others do many of them thanks to his technique.”

Matri: “I want to venture with the name, Lewandowski. Milan have had Ibra and Giroud in recent years, in contrast with the youth policy. If Barcelona wanted to get rid of him and rejuvenate the team it would be a great gamble. I also really like En Nesyri from Sevilla, but if you ask me I’ll also say Icardi among those proposed.”

Icardi is at Galatasaray and he racked up 22 goals and seven assists in 24 league games last season, while he is on 18 goals and seven assists in 27 games this time around. He also bagged five in the Champions League in 2023-24 too.

His league goal tallies at Inter from 2014-15 to 2018-19 went as follows: 22, 16, 24, 29, 11. Last month, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that he is a genuine and affordable option to be Giroud’s heir.

  1. Icardi is 31
He seems to be on the tail end of his career.
He hasn’t been an international for Argentina since 2013
The Turkiye Süper Lig is where a lot of pretty good but not outstanding players go once their careers stall in one of the top five European leagues.
A few make it back, most don’t

    1. At what age did Giroud arrive again?

Not necessarily a fan of Icardi, but getting a former Inter player is not a bad gamble if he delivers. He knows the league and who cares if he plays for Argentina or not…

      1. Exactly. And what age was Ibra when he arrived for his second spell? He’s not playing for Argentina because they’re punishing him for his off-field issues, which to my knowledge didn’t break any Argentine FA rules, and those issues aren’t relevant to us either. We should have gone for Icardi two years ago when he made the move from PSG to Gala.

      1. I agree 100% He needs to go back and read the 10 commandments, thrn he would have been standard player in Argentinian team

Lautaro would ha e been his sub, oissibly even today.

I personalky dont care, as long as he scores for us

  2. No way Jose!!!
Definitely don’t want him and his horrible wife at our club.
He’s old news, nobody wants him (her)

I’d rather play Pobega as striker

    1. Calm your tits. Milan needs a little bit of craze. In any case, Ibra is available to make sure it doesn’t get outta hand…

  3. Icardi has got quality especially in aerial balls and shots aswell. He would fit well with lots of croses from Leao,Pulisic and Chukwueza and he is a top finisher, he would definately score a lot of goals.

  4. I am sure 100% Icardi is better than Giroud.
But we acmilqn real and Passionate fans do not want Giroid relplaced by another Giroud.
Iit is must Acmilan should sigm world class young Strikers
Than its good for the team to achieve Cubs to add Icardi or Linduwinski.

    1. We may already have that in Jovic, dont forget how much money Real paid for him.

With Icardi being the main man and Jovic growing slowly while Ibra keeps the check on both of them and their respective families and entourage we may have a winning formula

That money can be soent elsewhere

  5. Icardi would be great but I doubt Ibra will want him around. Zlatan doesn’t like Icardi personally and he mentioned that Argentinian players wouldn’t succeed at ACM.

  6. Marco Parolo is right. Zirkzee will score and create goals for others. 15 with ease.
Giacherini shouldn’t even be talking about this. Zirkzee has 10 goals with bologna and 8 more games left into the season, but he can’t score 15 with Milan, with better players around him?
Icardi is a great finisher but you won’t get much out of him outside of the box, press or running back.

  7. I’ve supported this move since last season. For logical and emotional reason. Logically, just see his numbers. From the way he plays, seems like he found that mental stability. Emotionally, he can be a sweeter revenge than Hakan. With his hot and cold relation with Inter fans, just imagine him scoring in a derby..

  8. Nope. He is just another jovic , poacher in the penalty box . Pioli needs striker that can help teammate. Zirkzee with team like bologna still can score 10 goal and serie A still not ended , his team mate like saladmaker only score 2 goal + 3 asist from 25 app, imagine if zirkzee have better team mate like pulisic and leao , he can create chance for ACM offensive player ( zirkzee are leading table in player create chance in serie A )

  9. Why? There’s a reason he’s failed at every club he’s been to in the last decade. He’s an unmotivated headache who will be overpriced and out the door in less than 3 years. Stop looking at brain dead options and go buy a real upcoming center forward

  10. Niet. Nope, nope, nope. We can get a better striker than icardi. Im not talking about his skill. He got them. But everything else?

A big as$ no for former inter striker, even if it would be lautaro himself! You gotta have some boundaries otherwise what’s the f****** point
