The Times: Milan victory could push Conte close to Tottenham axe

By Oliver Fisher -

A result for AC Milan tomorrow night against Spurs in the second leg of their last 16 of the Champions League tie could push Antoni Conte closer to leaving, a report claims.

There has been growing speculation in the media that Conte is not expected to stay beyond the end of the current season anyway and that has led to suggestions that poor form could accelerate the breaking point.

According to The Times, if Spurs are knocked out of the Champions League by Milan tomorrow – with the Rossoneri having a one-goal first leg lead – it increases the chance of Conte leaving north London before the end of the season.

The consecutive defeats against Sheffield United in the FA Cup and Wolves in the Premier League have the Italian under pressure even though he has recently been in Italy recovering from his gallbladder surgery.

The paper adds that the former Inter and Juventus boss held a meeting with his players before Monday’s training session and will be in the dug out tomorrow, but his time back in Italy only strengthened his desire to go back sooner rather than alter.
