AC Milan started the new year with a win and cut the gap to Napoli back down to five points, but they were made to fight until the very end by Salernitana.
This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes how Milan simply had to seal the game earlier and avoid keeping their opponents in the match until the last minute.
It’s not the first time this has happened, indeed it’s one of the aspects on which Pioli’s team needs to grow more, but in the end what matters is to have started 2023 with a victory that allowed the Rossoneri to trim three points off Napoli’s lead, given they lost at Inter.
Rafael Leao and Sandro Tonali were once again the driving forces for Milan. The latter set up the former for the opener after 10 minutes, and then Tonali got a goal of his own with a sweet right-footed shot past Ochoa.
Salernitana got one back but Milan held on, and at Milanello the focus must immediately switch to the next match against Roma on Sunday evening at San Siro, a challenge that must be conquered to continue dreaming of a comeback for the Scudetto.
