Milan Women secure third in Serie A Femminile with final day derby win

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan Women have ensured that they finished third in Serie A Femminile this season with a 1-0 victory away at Inter on the final day.

The Rossoneri came into the game against Inter knowing that a victory would see them move above Fiorentina and into third place, a very respectable finish given the tough start to the season.

Third does not bring qualification for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, although rumours persist that UEFA may ban Juventus Women from the UWCL as part of their action against the whole club. The men’s team have been docked 10 Serie A points and could be banned from Europe by UEFA.

If that were to happen, the place would go to Milan instead, but nothing is official in that regard just yet.

It was a tight derby with both teams showing how evenly matched they are, but Scotland midfielder Christy Grimshaw grabbed the winning goal with 15 minutes to play.
