Botman brands Milan a ‘wonderful club’ and discusses why Newcastle have a ‘good project’

By Oliver Fisher -

Sven Botman has declared that he is ready to leave Lille at the end of the season despite being content there, branding Milan as a ‘wonderful club’.

Now, Botman has broken his silence regarding his future during an interview with Ziggo Sport about how in demand he was during the month of January and what the summer awaits for him in terms of a move away from Ligue 1.

“I’m still fine at Lille. We play in the Champions League, I have a good role in the team, but sometimes there are opportunities that you have to grasp. I have the feeling of being ready for a new step that I plan to take in the summer,” he said (via Calciomercato.com).

Botman was also asked specifically whether Newcastle and Milan moved for him, confirming that he is aware of their concrete interest in signing him last month.

“Yes, they were very concrete. Which one do I prefer? Both clubs have positive points. Everyone says about Newcastle: it’s all about money. But it’s also a good project, if you look at where Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain started. I think it would be nice to be a part of them. But Milan are a wonderful club.”

Calciomercato.com recently reported that Milan worked hard for weeks to try and sign Botman in the January transfer window, but are now ‘well on the way to reaching the finish line’ regarding a summer deal.

They went so far as to say that there is already an agreement in principle over a four-year contract with the former Ajax defender, and a deal worth a potential €33m is being discussed, while other sources have since confirmed an interest in getting the operation done this summer.
