Sky: Ibrahimovic needs guarantees from Milan in order to extend contract – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

One of the big issues that AC Milan will have to resolve in the coming months is the future of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the subsequent plans for the striker department.

Luca Marchetti spoke on Sky (via MilanNews) about the situation linked to the renewal of Ibrahimovic, remarking that ‘he will decide’ more so that the Rossoneri management dictating to him whether they need him or not.

If the 40-year-old wants to continue he will play and Milan will ‘not create a problem’. Marchetti added that Milan knew when offering a contract to a player in his 40s that the merits of having him are not just the technical value but also his impact the locker dressing that goes beyond the question of age.

Ibra’s contract already provides for a lower fixed salary with bonuses that went up based on appearances, so the renewal will not even be an economic problem. If the Swede believes that Milan are ‘still be ready to invest in him’ and if he feels an ‘integral part of their plans’ then he will stay, otherwise he will retire.

  1. To me, it seems like a no-brainer to extend. His influence is essential, and he still provides a lot on the pitch. Low-rate salary with bonuses proves no economic risk. Extending Ibras contract seems way better compared to signing a declining Belotti.

    1. Extending Ibrahimovic does not seem “way better” than signing Belotti on a free. It seems exactly the opposite.

Belotti will recover from injury, due to which he missed 17 games this season & be boosted by a fresh start at his favorite club next season.

      1. Totally agree! We need to move on from Ibra. His wages are not exactly meager either. He has done such a lot for the club but the time is now to bring in someone new.

  2. Hope he extends for one more season but hope that his salaries will be more based on the amount of games he can provide, since he is over 40 I don’t expect him to be playing more than 60% – 70% of games if he can remain more or less uninjured.

  3. I cannot really see a problem for AC Milan this season .Yes ibramavic is 40 ,but hey he still wants to play .He will still score goals .Yes he can’t play every game..
We also have Olivier Giroud who is now fit ,and technically the man is second to none ,when it comes to holding the ball up ,and scoring goals with both left and right feet ,also great heading ability .The best is still to come from him ..He is far from finished ,I would like to see Rebec alongside him. AC Milan can still challenge for honours this season .

    1. Only problem for scudetto challenge is the Dumbo coach Pioli who have never won in his career

Milan will not win with Pioli

  4. I’m ibra fan. Of course he has big impact on the squad. but we can’t keep relying on 40yo striker
Inter have Lautaro, Juve have Vlahovic.

  5. Ibra needs guarantees? No. Rather, Milan needs guarantees. The salary is too high. How many clubs are queueing to sign Ibra? None. Ibra’s astronomical salary is too much for a 40-yr old who is often injured and doesn’t have the strength to play 90mins regularly any more.

If Ibra agrees to 2mil salary, that is acceptable. If not let him go. He’s not going to play forever anyway and the earlier the team is weaned from him, the better. If he wants to be backroom staff, that’s okay.

  6. How can milan win trophy without reinforcement, we dont have the strength with this squad, salemaker, Castillejo, messi isnt really a first team materials, we don’t even have am,,
Whoever the striker if he doesn’t get the service he won’t score,, unless he is messi
its incredible if pioli can even finish 2nd in this season,,
