Milan’s scarily good record under Pioli in the month of May

AC Milan have got a rather remarkable record under Stefano Pioli in the month of May which they will put on the line tonight against Cremonese.

As we enter what promises to be a decisive next few weeks of the season with the top four fight incredibly tight and a Champions League semi-final against Inter to come too, it is important that Milan establish some momentum and roll with it.

The precedent bodes well though, at least in terms of previous results in May. Under Pioli, Milan have achieved eight wins out of nine league games played in the month of May (one draw), collecting eight clean sheets.

In months they have played more than two games, May is the month of the year in which the Rossoneri – under Pioli in Serie A – have the highest points per game on average (2.78).

In 2020-21 the results were as follows: a 2-0 win over Benevento, a 3-0 victory against Juventus, a 7-0 win against Torino, a 0-0 against Cagliari and a 2-0 against Atalanta.

The following campaign resulted in four wins from four: 1-0 over Fiorentina, 3-1 against Hellas Verona, 2-0 against Atalanta and the 3-0 versus Sassuolo that sealed the league win.
