Mirror: Spurs lead race for Milan target as Newcastle want over €50m

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are interested in signing winger Allan Saint-Maximin but are currently behind Spurs in the race to land him, a report claims.

According to what is being reported by the Mirror, it is Tottenham who are currently ahead of the Rossoneri in pursuit of Saint-Maximin. Milan are keen on signing the 26-year-old, who could leave this summer following Anthony Gordon’s arrival, but the asking price is an issue.

The Magpies are expected to ask for around £50million (€55m) which is a ‘potential stumbling block’ for Milan, while Spurs would have less of a problem paying that fee and made ‘discreet enquiries’ about his availability during the January transfer window.

Saint-Maximin cost Newcastle £16.5m when they signed him from OGC Nice in the summer of 2019 and he still has three years left on his contract, which puts them in a good negotiating position if clubs come knocking in the summer.

  1. wouldn’t give more that 25 million euros, loan option to buy, given his injury record. too high risk for a permanent move and he isn’t playing often enough to command anything higher than that for the fee. They have term of the contract, well they have to consider the terms of keeping him or selling to a domestic rival. There is a cost to doing them a favour and offloading him to us abroad. Take it or leave it. Get it done quick, if not, say no thanks and move on.
