The main headline from Stefano Pioli’s squad to face Shamrock Rovers may have been Lucas Paqueta’s exclusion, but there are a couple of other notable absentees.
In addition to the injured Rafael Leao, Andrea Conti, Alessio Romagnoli and Mateo Musacchio – plus the suspended Ante Rebic – the Milan boss was forced to leave out a couple of players who have been knocking on the door.
As noted by MilanLive, young duo Pierre Kalulu and Tommaso Pobega did not appear on the list. The reason for this though is not as blatant a snub as the Paqueta case.
In Europe, a total of 18 players can be in the actual matchday squad, across the starting XI and the seven subs on the bench, which means two of the 20 players named in the overall squad will be forced to sit in the stands and will not take part.
That is why Kalulu and Pobega remained in Italy and will train at Milanello tomorrow.
