AC Milan still owe money to clubs for players that are no longer in the squad, the accounts show, with Charles De Ketelaere still weighing heavily on the books.
As is normal when signing a player on a multi-year contract, the cost of their transfer fee is spread over the duration of their deal, reducing the up front expense for clubs.
Given how active Milan have been in recent windows, the 2022-23 accounts shows the following residual figures to be paid for signings as of 30 June 2023 (via MilanNews):
➤ €25.6m to Club Brugge for De Ketelaere
➤ €17.5m to Chelsea for Ruben Loftus-Cheek (signed before 1 July)
➤ €10.5m to Chelsea for Fikayo Tomori
➤ €4m to Lille for Mike Maignan
➤ €3m to Schalke 04 for Malick Thiaw
➤ €1.3m to Lecce for Lorenzo Colombo
➤ €1m to Brescia in bonuses for Sandro Tonali
➤ €750k to Crotone in bonuses for Junior Messias
➤ €600k to Spezia in bonuses for Daniel Maldini
➤ €248k to Bordeaux in bonuses for Yacine Adli
➤ €247k to Real Madrid in bonuses for Brahim Diaz
➤ €216k at Bodo/Glimt in sell-on fee for Jens-Petter Hauge
➤ €878k development fee for Maignan, Tomori, Thiaw, Leao, Giroud, Boakye, Eletu, Vasquez and Lazetic
€600k to Spezia in bonuses for Daniel Maldini. Milan paid Spezia to take him on loan?
It was a loan with option to buy plus a buy-back in Milan’s favour. As part of the buy-back fee there were add-ons, at least that’s what the accounts suggest.
