MN: Bennacer will be called up vs. Frosinone as Pioli gives fitness update

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer will make the trip with the rest of the AC Milan squad for the game against Frosinone having returned from his injury.

Bennacer returned from his long-term knee injury and played a handful of games for Milan (two starts) before heading off to the Ivory Coast for the African Cup of Nations.

However, he suffered an adductor problem and that limited him to playing just one of the three group stage games, with Algeria failing to win any of them and subsequently suffering elimination.

According to the latest from MilanNews, the indications from today’s training session at Milanello confirm that Bennacer is back to fitness as he trained with the rest of the squad again.

Bennacer therefore returns to the match day squad for the first time in 2024, but Antonio Mirante will not be available tomorrow due to a small dermatological operation, though Marco Sportiello is of course back.

Stefano Pioli answered a question about Bennacer’s condition during his pre-match press conference on the eve of the game against Frosinone.

“We all know his qualities, he can give us a lot. He had a slight injury at the African Cup of Nations, yesterday he returned to the group, he can’t get have playing time, but he’s fine and will be available.”
