MN: Defence has become one of Milan’s biggest strengths – the numbers show it

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have conceded just one goal in their first three Serie A games to start the season as the defence has become a real strong point.

As MilanNews writes, Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori were the starters in the first two games of the season while yesterday Alessio Romagnoli played with the Englishman in the heart of the defence, and despite the change the Rossoneri looked very comfortable against a team that had scored nine goals in the first two rounds.

Therefore, despite changing starters, the rearguard department remains a strength of Milan because of the three high-level players they possess, plus also the fourth central defender Matteo Gabbia who has not disappointed previously when called upon. Milan have kept seven clean sheets since the start of May, more than any other team in Europe’s ‘top five’ leagues.

After the farewell of Gianluigi Donnarumma, among some Milan fans there was a bit of fear about who his successor would be, but Mike Maignan’s performances have convinced everyone. The French goalkeeper is showing great command, and thankfully because of those in front of him his goal has hardly been peppered with shots.
