MN: Formation positives to take for Milan from Real Madrid friendly despite late defeat

AC Milan suffered a late defeat after leading 2-0 on Monday morning against Real Madrid, but there were positives for the Rossoneri to take when it comes to their new shape.

As reported by Milan News, the Rossoneri had some success in both the 4-3-3 formation and the 4-2-3-1 formation, suggesting that Stefano Pioli has got some tactical versatility coming into the new season.

It seemed that a 4-2-3-1 was preferable for Milan when they did not have the ball, and there were positive signs from both Christian Pulisic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek who arrived earlier this summer from Chelsea.

Many were also impressed with Tijjani Reijnders who looked composed on the ball, whilst Luka Romero scored a wonderful goal to make it 2-0 to Milan in the first half.

There was also a good display from the 18-year-old Jan-Carlo Simic at the centre of defence, a player that few expected to start the game against Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

  1. Overall I don’t take this as a defeat. Real played their best players throughout the game while we played our 2nd team essentially and in this adding Simic who’s comes from the primavera. nonetheless of this disadvantage we were winning 2-0 on merit and the only reason we lost was to silly blunders, which can be ironed out I’m sure while overall I think we played well

    1. Yeah, sure, let’s get rid of the best CB of last season. Good idea. I bet other teams would pay biiiig money for the +30-year-old. 😀

  2. We are going to do well ,as we have such a strong squad ,,.pulisic and Loftus cheek did ok ..
What a goal from Romero …Rafeol leao looked good when he came on as did Olivier Giroud..They will both score lots of goals this season ..it’s difficult to know exactly what our best formation will be ..I think we will switch depending on whom we play .
So very positive for the season ..lots of positives from this match ..We will challenge for honours this season ,I have no doubt about that

    1. Pulisic did better than ok. He was the main attacking threat in the first half. Real had to start double teaming him which opened up the center and right side more. Only problem I see is he was solid on the left which is already covered by leao. Hope he can do the same on the right.

Messias was garbage as usual and showed he truly needs to go. The rest looked promising with more fitness and time.

  3. What’s positive is they were playful against Real. It was an open and entertaining match. Since it was their first proper preseason friendly with mix of Primavera and newcomers, I can say it was a good one with positive showing from the players.

  4. We were missing many of our starters. We had a great performance regardless. And Romero looks like a great signing. Wow I still can’t believe we signed him on a free transfer. Could be the best deal of the summer indeed

  5. Regrettably, and predictably, the new signings did almost nothing, except of course Romero on the goal.

But one thing was obvious. Pioli is still going for 4-2-3-1. There was not trace at all of 4-3-3.

    1. Are you not see the game? They did OK. What do you want them to do, are you think we sign the xavi and iniesta duo, prime CR7 and and Messi or something?

If you don’t see the impact Pulisic RLC and Romero do, then good luck.

  6. Said this in the other articl. I’m surprised that it was an actual 433 with totally different movements not the 4231 disguised as another formation like we did last year with the “3 at the back”. At least we have an alternative option. But the 4231 is more solid
