MN: ‘Greater availability and choice’ – Fonseca to make defensive decisions

AC Milan face Fiorentina on Sunday evening, and Paulo Fonseca could make some changes to his defence it seems, with two players fighting for a starting role.

In recent days, the topic of rotation has been rife. Milan have used the fewest starters in Europe, and this can lead to several issues if Fonseca does not rotate the squad properly, and it seems he could make some changes this weekend with ‘greater availability and choice’ at his disposal.

According to a report from Milan News, the Portuguese head coach is considering bringing Davide Calabria into the squad once again with him fully recovered and ‘battling’ with Emerson Royal for the starting spot.

The Brazilian full-back has been scrutinised heavily this season so far, and he was not fantastic on Tuesday night against Leverkusen. With this in mind, it could allow Calabria a chance to re-enter the mix, and with Fonseca ‘favouring’ the former Spurs defender, Calabria must take his chance if it comes.

A similar situation is taking place with Fikayo Tomori, and the Englishman could be given a chance to rest against La Viola, and this would mean Strahinja Pavlovic would return to the starting eleven. Pavlovic has been absent from the starting eleven in recent weeks, but there is no pressure on him.
