MN: Ibra’s injury proves need for a striker – €60m man No.1 target but foreign options also considered

By Oliver Fisher -

Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s potential season-ending injury has reinforced the need for AC Milan to purchase a new striker in the summer, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, the historic victory against Juventus has brought enthusiasm back to Milanello and now the Champions League target is close, but a last effort is needed as wins against Torino and Cagliari would be enough.

Ibrahimovic’s injury has caused everyone to worry, but it seems to be less serious than expected. He will certainly miss tonight’s game and Sunday’s match at San Siro and is at risk for the game against Atalanta.

The club will work on the market to look for a striker given that Mario Mandzukic, Rafael Leao and Ante Rebic have failed to offer guarantees when replacing the Swede. The first name is Dusan Vlahovic of Fiorentina, but the €60m requested by their president Rocco Commisso scares the management, so it will be really difficult to sign the Serbian.

Andrea Belotti is also on the list as his contract is expiring in 2022 and a renewal seems complicated. Options from abroad must be taken into consideration too as Milan, through their scouting department, are working on names from other leagues.

  1. Belotti (for now) and Edouard (for future) seem like good cheap options as they are both entering last year of contract.

Daka, Malen and Boadu are also good options, but a little more expensive and the two dutchmen come packaged with Raiola.

Other interesting options: Vlahovic, Abraham and Nunez are all very much overpriced in my view. Especially the latter does not convince me at all.

  2. Mathematically speaking two wins against Torino and Cagliari might not be enough for CL qualification.

There is a scenario where Milan, Juve and Atalanta all end up with 78 points and Napoli gets 79 points and 2nd place.

In that case in the h2h table between Juve, Milan and Atalanta we would take the last place (which means 5th in Serie A)

    1. U are wrong in that h2h btw milan nd juve, milan have an edge over juve having beat them 3 nil while juve won by 3 goals to 1

    2. Atalanta and Milan are better h2h against Juve. In that scenario, Juve will be fifth and out of the champions league.

I am not talking about tie Milan-Juve. I am taking about 3 way tie between Milan-Juve-Atalanta. different thing.

        @foreteller
AFAIK that’s not how it works.
We are only edging Juve on goal difference. Points are more importatnt. Juve has 1 draw vs Atalanta and that gives them an edge in a 3-way-tie.

Assuming 2 loses by Milan vs Atalanta:
        Team: W-D-L Pts
        Atalanta 3-1-0 10
        Juve 1-1-2 4
        Milan 1-0-3 3
