MN: Kalulu follows Theo, Tonali and Tomori in committing to Milan’s project

It was announced earlier today that Pierre Kalulu has extended his contract with AC Milan until June 2027, and he becomes the latest player to pledge his future to the project.

MilanNews recall how Kalulu was signed directly from Lyon’s youth team in the summer of 2020 after Geoffrey Moncada was convinced of his qualities without the then-20-year-old having made his debut in the first team.

It was a complete leap in the dark to fans and the media, but obviously not to those who have followed the player for a long time and to Lyon, who did everything to convince the boy to renew and stay in France. The Rossoneri paid only around €400k as a development fee, and now his value must not be far off 100 times that.

Kalulu had to wait patiently for the right opportunity as Stefano Pioli waited several months before throwing him into the fray, but after his debut his usage gradually increased, and the Frenchman began integrate in a completely new country and league.

The qualities were obvious from the start as Kalulu showed he is fast, bold, flexible, dynamic, good at reading the game and monstrous in anticipation. He can be used as both a right-back and a centre-back, being deployed as the latter after the bad injury that Simon Kjaer suffered last season.

Along with Fikayo Tomori and with Mike Maignan behind them, Milan found an impregnable back line that led them to the Scudetto. At the age of 22 Kalulu certainly has sensational potential, and the good sign for the Diavolo is that he – after Theo, Tonali and Tomori – has shown his faith in Pioli, Maldini and Massara.

  1. that’s how a grateful player treats the club that believed in him & gave him a stage to perform, he’s good enough to be chased after by big clubs but he chose to develop himself in a place he’s accustomed to, grateful to, not setting his manager against us & causing unnecessary drama

  2. Great news. I believe Bennacer will renew as well – but Leao should be sold. His mind is clearly now elsewhere, and he seems unwilling or unable to take responsibility for the £18m debt which his past transfer dealings have landed him with. Whatever he thinks, Milan are not liable for that debt. Let’s hope he has a great WC, and sell him in January.

    1. I would hope that we can renew his contract and keep him for the long run but i do agree he should take responsibility for tearing up his contract as such actions has consequences. If he actually has demanded us to pay his debt it would in my view tell something about having a lack of character and generally having a spoiled mindset,
There should be set a date for his renewal and it shouldnt be allowed to drag out any further than the first week of january and if we still cant settle on an agreement then sell him to the highest bidder if we can get a reasonable amount for him.

  3. Oh boy, all these topics about contract renewals ultimately serve only one purpose: to give the legion space and opportunity to the anti-Leão crew to unleash their usual litany of whining criticism. This is getting more and more annoying each passing day..

    1. Im not part of any anti leao crew but you can nevertheless easily criticize him for tearing up his contract and then if he is demanding others to pay for his wrong doings question his character.

    2. “ultimately serve only one purpose: to give the legion space and opportunity to the anti-Leão crew to unleash their usual litany of whining criticism. ”

      LOL. Perhaps loosen up the tin-cap a little? 😀 😀 😀

  4. We can see in 2 examples Kessie and Renato Sanches, how the top teams actually do harm to players because of big competition. They use them as substitutes and Kessie and Renato Sanches will not reach their potential or become more recognizable players. Kalulu would not be the first option in PSG, and the same threat goes to Rafael Leao’s future.

    1. How are you comparing Kessie and Sanches? Kessie is a player who fulfilled his potential and became one of the best players in the league. Sanches is an injury prone fraud who never built on his promise by being useless at every big club he joined. Now, he’s not going to the world cup, his career is going nowhere.

  5. This is how you do it.

If the player still want to play with Milan then pen the paper asap without drama. But if not, they should ask Milan to sell them to other club before the contract goes up so both players and the club have win-win situation.
