MN: Kamada to be Milan’s first summer signing as five-year deal is ready

By Isak Möller -

AC Milan are in advanced talks with Daichi Kamada and the Japanese international is expected to be the first signing of the summer. Indeed, the announcement appears to be imminent, a report claims.

According to MilanNews, Milan and Kamada have reached an agreement in principle and the final acceleration will come after the DFB-Pokal clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig on Saturday evening.

A five-year contract worth €3m per year is ready for Kamada, who also rejected the approaches of Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund. He gave priority to Milan and this was a key in the negotiations, with medicals scheduled for next week.

Kamada will likely replace Brahim Diaz, who now looks set to return to Real Madrid as the latter have decided to keep the No.10. In addition, Milan never intended on paying more than €20m, which was always going to be tough to accomplish given the stubbornness of the Bernabeu side.

  1. I don’t see any improvement from Diaz or CDK. If this is the calibre of signings we should expect this summer, then we will be lucky to finish in the top 4 again next season. Hopefully, there’s more to this transfer window than a 26 year-old Japanese guy from the Bundesliga…

Right-winger and striker, guys, come on. That’s what we need.

    1. Well that’s quite the opposite, it won’t be hard for him to be better than CDK/Diaz.

He’s known as a CAM but can also play as CM behind a CAM, he’s done it several times for Frankfurt this season. Given Krunic is currently a starter and Bennacer’s injury, that’s a HUGE plus.

I think it’s an amazing transfer, a free agent that is a Milan admirer on top of that.

      1. The fact that he is a free agent is the only positive. The guy doesn’t impress me. In fact, CDK had far better highlights and performances, and we all know how that turned out.

      1. Why do we need a RB and CB?

Kalulu is literally both a RB and CB so surely he can cover both without us needing to crowd out any more players in the squad.

I’ve no idea how people think elite athletes can reach anywhere near the potential with these massive squads. It’s like filling a kitchen with a group of Michelin Star chefs and watching as they spoil the broth.

      1. This is a great squad deal for us but as a squad player.

We need SMS, Fermino, Artunovic and Openda for the attack and they are all within our reach.

We do not need a CB, but we need a RB (Simgo!) and LB cover

And finally 2 good Midfielders (Naby Kieta and Aaour on free would be genius)

    2. Based on this season only, anyone who’ll come is an improvement from CdK to be fair. Moreover if you bring quality to price ratio on the table.

Kamada is an excellent passer (might be better than all of our current platers), great long shooter, decent set pieces takers. Some of the characteristics that we’re clearly lacking this season.

        1. But €2M+/year cheaper (I believe Calhanoglu rejected our 4M net offer). Over several years this adds up to enough money to buy 1 or 2 promising young players, or push a deal for a star performer over the finish line.

From the balance sheets standpoint i.e. future resale value Transfermakt rates them about the same (5M difference that will probably shrink after the first season since Calhanoglu is 3y older).

We don’t know how the guy will perform, but financially it’s a great deal. Also, we can’t really go back in time.

        2. Sadly yes, whether we would like to admit or not. Before all the fiasco, Pioli clearly stated that Hakan was one of the cores of his Milan. He’s an archetypal Pioli’s no 10.

    1. “I hope he can be better than Keisuke Honda”

Well… You set the bar really low then. That’s just 2cm higher than CDK’s level.

  2. Kamada will give a new style to Milan attach. Asensio also can come for free to strengthen Milan right winger. Openda or Scamacca can come for striker.

  3. plz not, thats clueless sining again. Take Nakamura from LASK instead, 1mio salary, will tripple his value next year. Plz go for the teenagers Milan like Real is doing…….despite his age yes to Asensio this guy would be super helpful

    1. You mean Keito Nakamura? Yess hes good player. 22yrs old. 20 golazo between 52 apps. Milan should snap him before the price going rocket

  4. Now is time for Red Bird to gain more money from sponsorship deals revenue.
We are scudetto winners, champions league semifinalist, and three year in a row competing in champions league .

So bigger margins in sponsorship deals must be applied.

  5. Seems like a really interesting signing.

If we do sign him he needs space to breath. This should spell the end of Brahim and Adli and maybe even CDK if we sign another attacker.

    1. Diaz is definitely gone. He’s not worth 20m, nevermind 30m. We still need to have 2x players per position (nominally) and CDK ought to be given one more season, so I think he’ll stay and he and Kamada will be the CAM duo. That said CDK needs playing time if he’s going to finally “adjust” to Serie A. So, I can also see CDK being loaned out and Adli kept as the Kamada backup as there is less money at risk with Adli than there is with CDK so it won’t matter to the club of he spends most of the season on the bench. Terrible for the player, but c’est la vie en football.

      1. We broke Adli I’m afraid.

An elite athlete cannot take a year off.

Hell an accountant can’t a year off.

  6. I dont know why people is skeptical about this transfer. He’s complete midfielder who can scores goals and assists. A player like that, still young but experienced in Bundesliga for 4 season, winner Europa League last season with Frankfurt, hired at zero (30 million valuation by transfermarkt) with a salary of 3 million (with the growth decree) would be a bargain.
And ppl blast him, amazing !!

  7. Well he is better than CDK , his salary 3m euro nett not that high. Now AC Milan must sell or loan CDK , if CDK stay on bench next season ,his value gonna decrease fast. CDK can be use as swap player card too

  8. Kamada is a solid player. More consistent than Diaz, so by default it’s an upgrade at ACM. He can also drop deeper in mid. Solid signing but not a game changer.

Unfortunately I wouldn’t expect anything more for that position. Kamada the starter rotating w Benny when/if he returns to health – w CDK as back up or Adli (if he’s not loaned out) No other signings will happen for that position. That’s it. So don’t get your hopes up.

We will see what we do with Striker and RW. My guess is Openda now seems out of reach at 40M so it seems we are pivoting to other cheaper younger players. And El Shawarry will be our solution at starting RW lol. With only 50-70M that isn’t much to buy starting Calibre players – a decent established striker and RW (each 30-40M) would eat up that 70M easy. So we don’t have much to work with. Not easy for M&M with so many holes to fill.

Sportiello was a solid pick up. Hope we can grab another mid on a free or bring back a player like Kessie on loan. Maybe we can do something creative like IF Torino is dumb enough offer Poegba for Singo and some cash if needed.

    Will be an interesting summer
